Walter Lantz New Funnies #241 (1957), Dell Comics, Woody Woodpecker Chilly Willy. Fans don’t need me to tell them how iconic this Walter Lantz Golden Age Dell Four Color title is. More than 60 years after publication, this comic book has held up awfully well. Sure, there is some obvious wear on the cover, but the pages have held color really nicely (check photos), and all are secure and intact. Check the photos for yourself. Additionally, the appearances of Woody Woodpecker, Andy Panda, and Chilly Willy make this one a truly fun item to add to your collection. While I’m not a professional grader (and my grading is certainly subjective–truth be told, I’m a sports card collector who just came into these comics), I believe this fits the traditional description of a “Very Good” item (see below) Comic will be shipped in a bag with a board, and in a cardboard comic book mailer. (Of note: These comics were unearthed in a pretty awesome estate find recently. I’ve been told that some of them have a musty odor. I must confess, I can’t smell it; but my sense of smell isn’t all that keen.) *Zoom in and check photos above, as comic book pictured is comic book sold* 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG)The average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4″ triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8″ square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1″ spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple.
