Previously a limited-production model only, we’re stoked that such a versatile guitar has finally made it to full production and are excited to make it available to you guys! This one is a gorgeous 10-Top in a striking Charcoal Burst and the hybrid hardware upgrade package. Layout-wise, the Modern Eagle V essentially takes the Paul’s Guitar as a foundation with its neck profile, mini-toggles for the coil-splits and the proprietary soapbar-like TCI humbucker pickups, and then borrows the tremolo bridge configuration from the Custom 24. This is already a great start as is, but the Modern Eagle V takes it a step further still. Similar to how the Studio model is PRS’ answer to the hot-rodded “HSS” pickup configuration, the Modern Eagle can be considered the PRS Core “HSH” equivalent, as it adds an awesome-sounding NS-01 single-coil in the middle position and a 5-way switch. This way, you get all the combinations of an HSH “Superstrat” type along with being able to get 3 true single-coils with the mini-toggle switches for more vintage-style single-coil tones. The tonal possibilites here are endless – this guitar can cover it all, from jazz, blues, R&B, country to rock and metal. This may now be the most versatile PRS Core guitar in the lineup! Also new for 2024, the Phase III tuners have been refreshed with newly-designed “Wing” buttons for nicer cohesion with the bird motif, as well as less weight on the headstock for increased sustain and resonance. There’s a very real thing that can happen when you pick up a guitar that is just so inspiring that it makes you a better player by not only being easier to play, but also by giving you more motivation to pick it up and play it every chance you get. This versatile instrument definitely fits the bill. Manufacturer’s Description The Modern Eagle V is an innovative instrument that offers highly musical tones for both recording and playing live. Utilizing a hum/single/hum (five-coil) pickup layout and unique electronics configuration, the Modern Eagle V gives players a vast array of tones in one guitar. The 5-way blade switch selects the pickups in intuitive groupings: treble, treble and middle, middle, middle and bass, and bass. There is a single volume and a push/pull tone control that activates both humbuckers when engaged; this allows players to access all three pickups simultaneously. Finally, the mini toggles allow players to individually tap the humbucker coils, for additional single-coil sounds. This electronics design puts a whole set of classic and new tones at your fingertips. Additional appointments include a maple top and mahogany back, a 22 fret, 25” scale length, Pattern mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard, bone nut, and PRS patented Gen III tremolo. “Modern Eagle models have always been built to stand up to history while celebrating tonewoods and the discovery of new tones. The Modern Eagle V is a sophisticated instrument not only in its craftsmanship but in its electronic and mechanical design,” said Paul Reed Smith. “We’ve refined the pickup tones and are pleased to now add it to the Core lineup.” For 2024, PRS Guitars is updating the tuning machines on many of our Core guitars. While, aesthetically, our new Wing buttons are designed to echo the 12th fret bird wingspan design, they were first and foremost designed for tonal reasons all the way back in 1982. Because these buttons are lighter weight than their metal predecessors, they are subtracting less energy from the vibrating strings, thus helping the guitar ring longer and at a more musical note.
