Model Die Casting – MDC – Roundhouse – Undecorated 6′ Boxcar Doors, 8 each total. Here we have 8 new undecorated Roundhouse/MDC 40′ Boxcar doors; these are classed as 6′ doors but measure 6.5′ across to cover a 6′ opening. These replicate a Superior style door. This door is designed to fit the MDC cars but with some slight modification can fit Athearn and other cars too. Use these to change door types, bang them up for wreck debris or use in scrap loads, all sorts of uses come to mind, and the price is right. We were asked if these doors work on an Athearn 40′ car, here is our answer:The short answer is “sort of”. Athearn’s 40′ boxcar door is slightly shorter from top to bottom, but is a 6′ wide door also. To get them to work requires the use of a very fine file taken to the bottom edge of the door, you must have one thin enough to do this without removing too much material from the tops of the bottom door guides (a thin emery board can work too, the dollar store has the ones we use). A photo of a car we’ve done for our private railroad using MDC doors on an Athearn 40′ car has been added to the photos of this offer. Bottom line? You’ll need to fit each MDC door to an Athearn boxcar, and slide them on from the open end of the lower door guide, this task is best accomplished if the upper guides have been popped out of their locations, and you might need to remove a bit of material from the top of each door if you wish the doors to slide easily, but they are more snug fit in either case. (NOTE: depending on the vintage of your body shell, you may need to open one end of the lower door guide with a hobby knife) This OFFER is for EIGHT doors like those pictured in the first photo.
