eBay This is a 6 card vintage lot of Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Palmer of the Baltimore Orioles. All the cards in this lot are from 1983 or older! There are some cards in this lot that are very popular and tough to find, especially in a lot like this one! The 1983 O-Pee-Chee (Canadian version of Topps) cards included here are very rare to find in this condition due to limited production runs, O-P-Chee quality issues (especially related to centering) and O-P-Chee’s use of thinner card stock. Palmer was one of the steadiest performers and is one of the most under appreciated pitchers in the Hall Of Fame which is why his cards still have potential for increased value! This lot includes 1 card of each listed below: 1982 Topps #80 (getting tough to find, especially in a lot like this) 1983 Fleer #69 (difficult to find) 1983 Topps #490 (popular card) 1983 Topps #491 (‘Super Vet’) 1983 O-Pee-Chee #299 (rare due to limited production) 1983 O-Pee-Chee #328 (‘Super Vet’) Nicknamed “Cakes” for eating pancakes before his starts, Palmer was the winningest MLB pitcher in the 1970s, totaling 186 wins. Palmer won at least 20 games in eight different seasons, won three Cy Young Awards and four Gold Gloves. He led the league in ERA twice and wins three times. He was a six-time American League (AL) All-Star. Palmer was also one of the rare pitchers who never allowed a grand slam or allow back-to-back homers in any major league contest!!! Palmer is the only pitcher in history to earn a win in a World Series game in three different decades, the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. He is also the youngest to pitch a complete-game shutout in a World Series, doing so nine days before his 21st birthday in 1966. In that World Series game in 1966, Palmer defeated Sandy Koufax in what would end up being Koufax’s last appearance. At the time of his retirement, Palmer’s career earned run average (2.856) is the third-lowest among starting pitchers whose careers began after 1920. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990. In 1999, he ranked 64th on The Sporting News’ list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players and was nominated as a finalist for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. As I have a few of these lots, the cards shown in the scans are examples of the card quality and not necessarily the cards you will receive. All the cards you will receive will be in Near Mint (NM) condition or better! As was the case in those days, some cards may be off center but none will be miscut, meaning none of the inner frame of the photo will touch the card edge. If you have questions please contact me. To help you understand how I’ve evaluated card condition, included is a sample condition guideline showing what grading scale is used by the 3 major card grading companies / authenticators. As a potential buyer, I’d like you to know a little about me, I’m a card collector and have been since the late 60’s, baseball cards are my primary collecting interest. During the mid-80’s I started attending card shows to buy, sell and trade. From the mid-90s until about 2013 my personal interest in the hobby was put on hold as raising a family and my career to support my family were the priority. Currently, I have raw and graded baseball cards available dating back to the late 50’s and raw football, basketball and hockey from the early to mid-70’s in varying condition. My ‘inventory’ also includes unopened wax, cello and racks. At the moment I just don’t have time to list all the cards I’m willing to sell, but if there is something you are looking for, let me know and I’ll see if I have the item available. There is no return on sales of raw, ungraded, cards. If there is a mistake, please contact me and we can try to work something out. To help reduce shipping costs, unless instructed otherwise, these cards will be shipped in a Plain White Envelope (PWE). If requested by the buyer, shipping in a small padded envelope will cost $4, total. Shipping fees listed are for delivery within the continental 48 states of the USA using USPS. International rates will vary and will charged extra, with the exact amount to be determined at the time of purchase. Shipments are typically mailed twice per week, on Saturdays and once during midweek. If you need an item with expedited shipping please notify me, while there is no guarantees that I’ll be able to expedite the item(s), I will do my best to accommodate your request. Combined shipping is available and is based on the following: a) The buyer will pay the first or highest shipping fee and add $1.00 for each additional single graded card or $0.25 for each additional raw, ungraded, card. b) If unless the value is more than $200, I will insure the package through USPS, in which case the shipping costs may be more. If the buyer accepts the risk of the item(s) getting lost or damaged the buyer can request the insurance be waived. c) Unless mutually agreed otherwise, the combined shipping is only available for items purchased within a 7 day period starting with the first purchase. d) In cases where multiple items are purchased, please don’t pay until you receive the updated invoice.
