We are pleased to present an extremely rare find this particular large case grandfather clock was constructed by the famous Daniel Rose out of reading Pennsylvania he is also knowing as Pennsylvania’s first citizen he served on a committee with George Washington Mr Rose was born in 1749 of reading became a talented watch and clock maker capable of building musical mechanisms that few in America could rival. He also sold and repaired clocks watches jewelry in addition to musical instruments in 1775 Rose instructed the drummers and the pfeiffers of the first battalion of the Berks county Melita. The following year he joined the committee of safety in Reading and in 1777 was appointed a captain in the malitta. He served in the state legislature from 1799 to 1804. Currently the Burke’s history center museum is home to several rose tall case clocks and full-length portrait of the famous clock maker in the portrait Daniel roses depicted as a dashing figure wearing his double-breasted coat and red silk vest. The clocks that are on display in the museum are very beautiful and ornate The particular clock that we are listing is not in that collection and is slightly different by the cabinet maker on the top is the designation side of the cabinet bottom of the cabinet and everything else is definitely from the same cabinet maker The particular large case grandfather clock that we have is one of his earlier works and it was believed constructed prior to 1800. Mr Rose ornately painted and decorated the dial of his clocks and clearly put his name on the clock.
