eBay NO RESERVE. 1/1250 West Germany Navy FGS Z1 Pennant # D 170 (ex USS Anthony (DD 515), Type 119 Z1 / US Fletcher-class Destroyer, 1958-1972. Z1 was the first of six formerly month-balled US destroyers transferred to the fledgling West German Navy to assist it in becoming established as a credible defense organization. It was transferred from the US Navy on January 17, 1958 and commissioned into the West German Navy the same day. After several years of active duty, Z1 was replaced by a newly-constructed unit and decommissioned on March 17, 1972. She was returned to the US on April 15, 1972 but subsequently sold to West Germany for cannibalization and scrapping. Finally stricken by West Germany in 1976, she was eventually sunk as a target in the Mediterranean on May 16, 1979. This group of models are full-hull pieces with the complete underwater portion, including screws and rudders. Very nicely detailed with well-defined mask lines between the different colors of paint used to add to their authenticity. The model comes mounted on a black resin base and is packed between two matching formed clear plastic “supporting” holders, the outer of which is attached to a cardboard backing card. It is recommended that the model be kept upright when the packaging is opened so that it doesn’t lean over and bend or break off a fragile part like a mast. Once unpacked, the ship’s masts, yards and radars might require slight ‘tweaking’ to properly straighten or align them. Diecast and plastic model. DeAgostini #DAKS38. MIB.
