This makes the dampening sheet air space neutral. Foam fill has two effects that are quantified parameters. 1. Increased acoustical absorption. 2. Increased damping, resulting in larger apparent enclosure size. The foam increases the apparent volume of the speaker enclosure, which offsets the space taken up by the drivers, port, and dampening layer. One piece of dampening layer comprises 0.005 cu. ft. Yes, the damper layer takes up air space, but the open cell foam slows down the airflow in the enclosure causing the drivers to recognize the volume as larger than it is. The overall effectiveness of this cancels out the volume taken by the dampening layer. The measured tuning frequency from an impedance sweep shows no notable change. This Egg Crate Acoustic Foam layer is 2.0” thick for increased surface area. Its effective acoustic contact area ratio is 1:2.59. It is a precisely engineered sound absorbent foam that absorbs acoustic energy across a wide range of frequencies improving speaker performance. The foam absorbs unwanted sound from within the cabinet reducing unwanted reflections and preventing them from exiting through the cone or port. Easy to install, strong, pressure sensitive adhesive backing, just cut, peel and stick. No glue or other adhesives required. 1. 1. Score with an X-Acto knife or utility knife and cut to the desired size with utility scissors or knife. Cut into small pieces for ease of installation. Butt small pieces together for the same super effectiveness as one larger piece. 2. Peel off paper backing from the damper layer. 3. Apply directly to the interior surface of the speaker enclosure’s cabinet wall surface. 4. Press firmly in place to alleviate air pockets, which reduce the sound-damping capacity.
